You mighta sipped on some lemonade bought from your nephew’s stand this summer…but you probably haven’t had a version like this: an elevated, boozy twist that uses bourbon and sake. “I wanted to create a sake-based cocktail that would pair well with a summer barbecue,” says Jenifer Van Nortwick from Sake ONO. “Seldom do people think about putting those flavors together, and I thought having just a hint of bourbon, fresh lemon juice and club soda would help cut through the richness of the food.” A bright, sunny drink for the brightest, sunniest season.

Ingredients
  • 2 oz. sake (recommended: Sake Ono)
  • .5 oz. lemon juice
  • .25 oz. premium bourbon
  • .25 oz. simple syrup
  • Club soda
Directions

    1. 1. Combine sake, lemon juice, bourbon and simple syrup in a shaker tin. Add ice and shake for about 15 seconds.

    2. 2. Strain over ice into a highball glass. Top with club soda. Garnish with a lemon wheel.
